VISION STATEMENT
The educational community known as The Charter School of San Diego - Student Success Programs is committed to the development
of a culturally sensitive instructional program which demonstrates positive student outcomes for all students. It is dedicated
to the creation of new instructional, service, organizational and governance models which can serve as prototypes for urban
school districts interested in educational reform. The Charter School of San Diego is further committed to
a collaborative effort which engages partnerships and alliances in the work of improving the quality of life for students,
their families, and the San Diego community at large. CSSD, a middle and secondary school, is sponsored by
the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce Business Roundtable For Education in partnership with Labor's Community Service
Agency and San Diego City Schools. This unique collaboration between school district, business and labor offers ever growing
opportunities and alternatives for our students.
History of Our School
Thank you for your interest in The Charter School
of San Diego.
We are proud to share information about a unique design created to support students and families looking
for an educational option. Our middle and secondary school is sponsored by the San Diego Chamber of Commerce Business Roundtable
for Education in partnership with Labor's Community Service Agency and San Diego City Schools. This unique collaboration between
school district, business and labor offers ever growing opportunities for our students.
The Charter School evolved
from a program originally funded by SB 65, California State funding aimed at curbing the dropout rate. In 1991 under San Diego
City Schools Restructuring, the Educational Clinic Alternatives as they were formerly known, became part of Student Success
Programs - Alternative Education. From 1992 to 1994 these nontraditional "mini schools" changed radically. A complex system
of community partnerships and alliances supported a rapid expansion. In response to requests by community, the delivery of
service was implemented city-wide. A nontraditional calendar was adopted, and flexible scheduling for students was incorporated
to strengthen academic and career options.
In the 1997-1998 school year, The Charter School of San Diego - Student
Success Programs will administer 44 classrooms across the city and address the needs of over 1800 students in a 12 month period.
Today it operates as a California State Charter School sponsored by San Diego City Schools, The Greater San Diego Chamber
of Commerce, Business Roundtable For Education, and in partnership with the San Diego Labor Council, Labor's Community Service
Agency.
CHARTER SCHOOL FAMILY: Working with families
to build strong academic and career opportunities for students.
The Charter School of San Diego depends on the teamwork
of all its staff in order to achieve the best results in helping the students and parents of San Diego. This can easily be
witnessed by attending our graduation ceremonies where teachers, administrators, and students join together in creating, without
a doubt, one of the finest celebrations you'll ever experience. Graduation is a proud moment for all who have worked hard
to succeed and we honor all student achievements with a memorable finale to their high school years. The ceremony is
held at the Organ Pavillion in Balboa Park among the most beautiful achitecture and grounds in San Diego. Student speeches
illuminate the pavillion with rousing words of hope, excellence and encouragement. As a teacher, it is a magical day of pleasant
farewells and positive acknowledgment of boundless futures.
